The Latitude mobile alert device is amazing. I didn’t realize it had so many features that would be helpful for ANYONE to use. I think it would be helpful if it were advertised as being something that can be used to stay in touch with those who live alone or who might be alone often so that the people who care about them can check on them to see how they are doing. It’s not just for people who are old and feeble or for people who are totally incapacitated. It can be a helpful device for anybody to have and use. The device is much more portable than a cell phone making it so much easier for emergency contacts to reach out and check on the person who is wearing the device to verify that they are OK. Sometimes people don’t have their cell phones next to them or can’t hear their ringer and this device would be so much more convenient and effective because the alert that sounds is very audible and because they’ll be wearing it, you know you can reach them. Being able to send a text to identify their location is also a helpful feature, particularly if a person has a tendency to wander. It’s very easy for the user as well. The person wearing the device can simply press a button (rather than looking around for a cell phone and finding their contacts) to reach people on their contact list in the order that they are listed. Everyone on their contact list will receive a text message when the button is pressed, but the device will only call people on the emergency contact list in the order that they are listed. If the first person on the list is able to address that person‘s needs, none of the other contacts will receive a call, which will mean that the person who pressed the button is getting the help they need. If the first person on the list either doesn’t answer or cannot get to the individual, the device will contact the second person on their emergency contact list. The phone calls to the people on the emergency contact list stop as soon as a person contacted from the emergency contact list says they are able to help the individual with the device. If the hesitation to get one of these devices or to use it is because of concern that it will automatically trigger a call to 911, don’t worry that’s not how it works. It will call 911 according to how you listed it on your list of emergency contacts. If you list it last, they will be contacted last and only if all the other contacts before it could not respond.
